News from Year 1

On Wednesday the 9th May, our Year 1 students had the opportunity to attend an excursion to the Brimbank Bike Education Centre in Keilor Downs. Students were first given information about bike and traffic safety and then watched a demonstration on correct fitting of helmets and bike safety features. Students then explored the Centre’s traffic park in small groups. Students identified the various road signage and traffic rules and discussed what each of these meant for our safe riding. After fitting their helmets on safely, students then had a go at riding bikes, adhering to the traffic rules all the way. The pedalling took a lot out of some of us, but it was great fun! It was fantastic to see students following the rules and riding safely and assisting each other with enthusiasm. Following this, students had their healthy picnic lunch and play at the Green Gully Reserve Park.

Year 1 French

Students had fun practising the French song ‘Arc en ciel’ which they will perform at the school concert next term.

Students also enjoyed completing their French textbook.

News from Years 2A and 2B

It has been a great start to the term with students having participated in various school activities. They have learnt the basic skills of First Aid provided by St John’s Ambulance; started soccer clinics provided by Melbourne Victory and enjoyed their Community Walk excursion around the Caroline Springs Lake.

In class, students have been learning about writing narrative pieces – learning about the structure and the power of using adjectives to make their stories interesting. During Maths classes, students have been looking at maps and understanding location and position. This has been a very hands-on activity and students have been thoroughly enjoying something new, especially during the excursion to Caroline Springs Lake.

Just a reminder to you all that in order for students to borrow books from the library, they must bring their library bag. If students do not have a Sirius College Library bag they can be purchased from our Library for $5.00. We also would like to encourage parents to read regularly with their child to assist with comprehension.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.
